10-14 UPDATE!

Hi folks,

The painting is done. Sidewalks are in.

This Saturday a large group of electricians will be here doing the finish electrical work in the morning, so I'd suggest that other volunteers come at noon.

We'll be working on finish items - flooring, doors, trim.

10-12 UPDATE!

On Sat. we finished the painting; and the legal folks from Corning got the lawn pretty well graded off and stones removed (it's ready for topsoil once the gutters are up)

Wed - install flooring; if the weather permits - pour sidewalks & install gutters (one of Lowe's installers has volunteered to come help)

Fri - start installing doors and trim (a small group of MTE folks will be here to help)

At this point we're done with projects that can use large groups. Now we'll be doing skilled finish work - hanging doors, installing trim, etc.

Saturday - we'll finish painting; work on grading the lawn area; possibly start installing flooring.

FOR THE NEW FOLKS!

In case you are new to reading the construction updates:

We are building at 89 Ontario St. in Corning. Ontario Street is right behind the Pizza Hut on Pulteney St. and the house we are doing is just about oppsite the Pizza Hut parking lot.

We are building on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 to 3.

Everyone is welcome to come build with us, skilled at construction or not.

9-30 UPDATE!

Hi folks,

The drywall taping is progressing well, in spite of the cool weather that is slowing dry time.

It was very cool working outside today - got some trim work done. Sounds like it will be warming up by the end of the week.

We will be working Fri. (10/2) - finishing siding, facia trim, and rain gutters.

On Sat. (10/3) we hope to start painting and do some yard work.

There are about 5 people from Corning (MTE group) coming Fri. & Sat.; and about 10 Ithaca students Sat.

Hope to see you at the house.

Regards, Bruce

9-21 UPDATE!

Just to let you know the good news:

The carpenters were in Sat. and got almost all the walls done. I didn't order quite enough sheetrock, so we'll have about 8 sheets to put up on Wed. (plus the corner beads)

Bill Woodruff is going to do the taping/finishing for us - he figures he can be done by the beginning of next week.

If we have time, we can also work on siding/trim. Assuming we can get the sheetrock done, we probably won't need to work Fri. this week.

Just a reminder: We WON'T be working this coming Saturday! (9-26)

9-18 UPDATE!

Hi folks,

Just to let you know where we're at. Last Sat. the carpenter's union installed ceiling sheetrock; students from Cornell and Ithaca college worked on insulation in the walls and crawl space. The Wed. crew finished the fiberglass insulation in the walls - everyone did an excellent job on this; it looks like we should get a top rating on our energy star insulation evaluation.

This Sat. (9/19), the carpenters will be installing the sheetrock on the walls. We do have some other work that can be done at the same time - installing rigid foam in the crawlspace, and finishing exterior siding and trim work.

Next Sat. (9/26) we will not be working at the house. We plan on starting interior finish work in Oct.

9-14 UPDATE!

Hi folks --

Ceiling sheetrock is up. We got an excellent start on installing fiberglas in the walls.

This Wed. and Fri. we need to finish installing fiberglas; seal the ceiling drywall; install the tub; adjust/complete some doorway openings - so we're ready for the carpenter's to put up wall sheetrock on Sat.

Also, would you let me know if you can be here to help supervise on Sat., 9/19. We have Cornell & Ithaca college students interested in coming down - if the weather is okay, and we have at least a couple more people to supervise (I'll be here), they could work on siding and/ or go to Addison to seed the lawn (hopefully it will be graded this week)

Regards,Bruce

9/21-10/1 - sheetrock taping (we're still checking on someone to do this professionally, or at least the finish coat); attic insulation (blown cellulose)

Group Volunteer Update 9-3-09

As of this date, we can not accept any other large groups of volunteers until after October 7.

We have the Carpenters Local coming in to install the drywall September 12 and 19.

September 3, 2009 UPDATE!

Hi, folks,

Thanks to the Cornell students who were down last Sat.(8/29) They did
an excellent job of getting us started on sealing up the crawl space.
We'll be taking this Sat. (9/5) off for the Labor Day weekend. The
following weekend (9/12) the carpenter's union is coming in to
sheetrock the ceiling in the morning. I'd recommend that any other
volunteers arrive after 11 am that day.

Regards,
Bruce
