CONSTRUCTION IS STARTING!

Planning has been underway for the build projects for this year. We are going to busy!

First, we will be building a construction storage shed at the ReStore site on Route 414 in Corning. The main building there will be done by a combination of the students from the Ithaca College Campus Chapter and local State Farm agents to celebrate the successful completion of the requirements for Ithaca College HFH to receive a $5,000 grant from State Farm. Combined with the $5,000 raised by the students, SESC Habitat will be receiving $10,000 for our building fund! This group day is scheduled for Satuday, April 24th.

Then work will start on the first house we will be building this year at 266 Bridge St. in Corning. Keep checking bac for updates on the progress there.

Here's the first posting from Bruce Peffley, our construction team leader:

Hi folks,
Here's the current plan for the several weeks.

Set forms and pour concrete pad for a new construction shop area at the Restore. (W, 4/14, 8:00 AM ; rain date F, 4/16 or Sat, 4/17)

Assuming the foundation (at 266 Bridge St.) gets completed, we'll start working regularly on Wednesdays beginning 4/21- our initial tasks are to complete the center support beam; floor joists and decking; foundation drainage, radon piping, plastic film & gravel in crawl space. The goal is to be ready for framing the exterior walls during the Women's Build on F, 5/7.

If you're available to help supervise, a group of Ithaca College students and State Farm employees are going to be working on building the construction shop on Sat., 4/24. (The IC student chapter was awarded a grant from State Farm to aid our projects.)

Regards,
Bruce
